About PlotPDFPro
PlotPDFPro converts technical drawings into scale-faithful PDF documents.
What is PlotPDFPro?
PlotPDFPro is an online service that converts PLT drawing files exported from AutoCAD and similar CAD programs to PDF. The drawing is not redrawn: lineweights, scale and page size are preserved.
Why does it exist?
In a technical drawing, scale is not a detail: it is the document itself. General-purpose converters treat a drawing like an image: the scale drifts, lineweights break and text moves. For anyone taking measurements from the sheet, that makes the document unusable.
PlotPDFPro does not redraw the drawing. It reads the page size, scale and lineweights from the drawing's own data and produces the PDF as vector graphics. The goal is that the output matches the drawing both on paper and when measured on screen.
Engineering comes first
At PlotPDFPro, a decision is right only if the output is measurably the same as the drawing. That is why conversion runs on the server rather than in the browser, the drawing is never redrawn, and no step starts on its own: selecting a file does not start a conversion — you do.
The same approach applies to how we describe the product. On this site you will not find an unmeasured speed claim, a download link for an unreleased product or a certificate that cannot be verified. What we do not know, we say we do not know.
That is why, for PDF/A too, we rely on independent validation rather than on our own word. Files produced with the PDF/A option by the AutoCAD add-in and by web PLT conversion have been tested with the open-source validator veraPDF: PDF/A validated with veraPDF (PDF/A-2b).
Who is it designed for?
For the disciplines that produce and share scaled drawings:
- Architects — Sharing sheets, sections and elevations with their scale intact.
- Civil engineers — Producing measurable PDFs for permits, fabrication and site use.
- Mechanical engineers — Passing on fabrication drawings without broken lineweights.
- Electrical designers — Sharing single-line diagrams and panel details in a readable form.
- Surveying and mapping firms — Delivering scaled survey and setting-out sheets.
- Technical offices — Sharing a drawing archive with stakeholders who do not have AutoCAD.
- Construction companies — Making sure the sheets sent to site keep the correct scale.
- Print and reprographics centres — Receiving incoming drawings at the right size before printing them.
Products
PlotPDFPro consists of conversion tools for different workflows. The supported formats depend on the product:
- PlotPDFPro Web — PLT and RVT → PDF. Upload PLT in the browser; a vector PDF is produced with page size, scale and lineweights preserved. Signed-in members can also convert Revit (RVT) sheets to PDF/A. Conversion runs on the server.
- PlotPDFPro AutoCAD Add-in — DWG and DXF → PDF. Converts DWG and DXF drawings to PDF from inside AutoCAD, preserving plot style, layout, paper size and scale settings.
How does it work?
- You upload your drawing.
- You start the conversion; it never starts on its own.
- You download the generated PDF.
Each successful conversion uses one credit. Failed conversions use no credit and downloads are free. Uploaded drawings and generated PDFs are retained for seven days; when the period ends the file is removed and your conversion record remains.
